SCAM TYPES
Scams can appear in many different forms. These are the most common scam types.
Investment - Promises of high returns with little or no risk, eg: Cryptocurrency offers, fake trading platforms, celebrity endorsement scams
Payment redirection - When a scammer tricks a person into sending money to the wrong bank account. They usually pretend to be a supplier, trade or contractor or a business you already deal with.
Romance - Scammers build emotional trust, then ask for money, eg: Medical emergency, flights or visas, investment opportunities together.
Phishing - When scammers pretend to be trusted organisation to steal your details. Scammers often impersonate banks, myGov, Australia Post.
Remote access - Scammers pretend to be from Microsoft, Telstra, NBN or your bank. They may ask you to install software, share your screen, provide banking details.
